JULY 2005 ‚ 2138 HOURS ‚ TEMBO HOUSE HOTEL STONE TOWN ZANZIBAR
Another travel day, from the crater all the way to Arusha for lunch at the Arusha
Hotel where we said farewell to our driver and transferred back to Kilimanjaro
International Airport for the hour flight to Zanzibar. Met by a representative
of Fisherman Tours for the short trip to the unbelieveably authentice Tembo House
Hotel, right in the heart of historic Stone Town.
And
our room! The bellmen who brought our bags up told us it was the
presidential
suite ‚ not because of its size, but because of the magnificent views found
on the balcony overlooking the water and the phenomenal sunset that we found.
Hard to believe that yesterday we were awestruck over elephants and rhino
in the Ngorongoro crater and this evening we've just finished dinner at this
magnificent place (originally the American consulate from the 1830s)
and now Susan's
reading all snug in a huge bed boundaried by the mosquito tent, and I'm typing
this on an ancient marble-topped cafÈ table with the Indian Ocean shushing
its surf at the sands of the beach a hundred feet away from our room. Life
is grand.

Tomorrow
is all about a tour of Stone Town proper and then a move over to
the
luxury of the Breezes Beach Club about an hour away on the other side of
the island.
